This time I will continue to post USD facts, that may be quite captivating. I have always wondered where Dollars are produced and what quantity of green papers is released every day. So, having done a little bit of research I have found out, that United States Dollars are manufactured only in two places – in the capital of the USA (Washington, DC) and also in the city of Fort Worth (Texas). About three thousand people are involved in the production on two plants.

At the same time it is necessary to admit that there are so many paper money printed, that every day 18 tons of ink is wasted for it. Can you imagine, how many paper Dollars gets out into the world every day? Frankly speaking, this is one of the most amazing USD facts I have ever heard. I think, that if the USA continues releasing such big number of money, their economy might just be blown up one day by the inflow of useless cash.

There are many USD facts that are not known to public now. Many people are using the American currency every day, but most of them hardly know much about it. At this rate it is sometimes quite interesting to find some unknown facts, connected with the history or the “life” of Dollar. So, I will be posting such things from time to time.
By the way, have you known that Abraham Lincoln (1804-1865) was the only president of the USA, whose image appeared on the paper money, when he was still alive? The sixteenth president of the United States was depicted on the paper USD money because of his achievements and success in the North of USA.
But he was the last alive person in the history of the USA, whose image was placed on money. The point is, that when the American government wanted to release the 5-cent banknotes (yes, 5-cent ones) in 1863, a big scandal occurred. The money should be emblazoned with the portraits of famous researches William Clark and Meriwether Lewis, but Spenser Clark, one of the officials from the Treasury Department, decided to replace them with his own portrait. And such money were printed. After that the Congress has taken the law prohibiting to depict on the money the portraits of alive people. And that’s another one of captivating USD facts.

A couple of days ago I stumbled upon a piece of interesting information. Do you know, that in the United States of America 35 million bank notes to the amount of 635 million USD are printed EVERY DAY? I was really shocked, when I heard that. Of course, it is necessary to take into consideration the fact, that 95% of these “USD papers” are produced to replace old and worn-out ones, but the remaining 5% are also pretty big sum.
Just try to imagine, what an amount of costless money (just small green sheets of paper) is produced and thrown into the market every year! Only for 2005 the real cost of one USD bank note was only $0.057. Such facts really make me think about the current economic situation in the world…
